CHEAP FLIGHTS TO Islay

The scenic island of Islay is thought to be the birthplace of whisky in Scotland, and with seven working distilleries, Islay continues to export the "water of life" throughout the world. The island is 25 miles long by 20 broad, and is the southernmost of the Hebridean chain of islands on Scotland’s West Coast. It provides the perfect environment for whisky making, with abundant quantities of pure, clear, soft water, and virtually unlimited supplies of peat and fertile farmland. Laphroaig, Ardbeg, and Bowmore, are not only world-renowned whisky brands, but also the names of the villages and towns scattered along this magical island, for there is more to Islay than whisky, however tempting it may be to spend all your time touring the distilleries.

Islay is equally famous for it’s wildlife, especially the spectacular flock of barnacle geese that overwinter on the island, thus delighting bird watchers. Artists and photographers will enjoy capturing the ever-changing light playing over mountain and moorland, on seascape and landscape, whilst the nature enthusiast will enjoy walking along miles of soft golden sands, and soaking in the atmosphere of this unique island. There are many memorable villages and white washed ports well worth a visit, as well as historical sites such as Kildalton Cross, one of the most stunning Celtic crosses in existence, and the curious Round Church in Bowmore.
